Austin and Thomas Shine (extracted from the Sunday Sun July 17, 2005)

A Seven wicket haul by off-spinner Ryan Austin and an enterprising 77  by Antonio Thomas put EAS Field Pickwick in total control against Banks yesterday.

Austin undermined Banks with the impressive figures of seven for 34 from 9.3 overs, delivered on the trot from the northern end.

It was his third consecutive seven-wicket haul and pushed his season tally to 36.

Austin captured seven of the last eight wickets to fall as Banks were routed for 109. Pickwick enjoyed a healthy lead of 143.

Austin and Thomas put on a spirited 76 for the eighth wicket. This after Joe Harris had extended his overweek 53 to 66, before he fell to Gregory Alleyne, who was the leading bowler with three for 36.

Austin spins team to top Published on: 7/31/05 in the Sunday Sun

OFF-SPINNER Ryan Austin continued his impressive season when he took his 50th wicket for the season and bowled ESA Field Pickwick to an innings and 68-run victory over BRC Barbados Cricket League in their Legend's Division 1 match with a day to spare.

Pickwick, without a Division 1 title for five decades, have now taken over the lead in the points standings.

Austin mesmerised the BCL with second innings figures of seven for 16 to send them crashing for 96 all out.

He had managed a solitary wicket in the first innings, although the BCL, continuing from their overweek score of nine without loss, were forced to follow on after being bowled out for 88 shortly before tea.

With BCL, facing a deficit of 164 runs, and fighting back at 48 without loss, Austin was brought in from the northern end and immediately removed captain Randy Thomas.

From then on it was the Austin show, as the only resistance came from Thomas' opening partner Dwayne Lynch with 28.

Austin's flighting of the ball was the downfall of the BCL batsmen, with most of them being trapped leg before or caught at forward short leg.

Squash girls place third Published on: 8/4/05 by the Daily Nation

DEFENDING GIRLS' TEAM CHAMPIONS Barbados had to settle for third place in the 23rd CLICO Caribbean Junior Squash Championships last weekend.

They defeated Jamaica 3-2 in the third-place match as the curtain came down at the Cascadia Squash Club in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Barbados girls' team was led to victory by the outstanding pair of reigning Caribbean under-15 champion Cheri-Ann Parris, and Nadia McCarthy in the No.1 under-19 position.

McCarthy won comfortably against Tracy Binnie who retired injured after trailing 0-2. Like Parris, McCarthy also won all of her five team matches.

The overall team championship was claimed for the 13th time by Guyana with 18 points. Trinidad finished second with 15 points, Bermuda third (12) and Jamaica fourth (11). Barbados were fifth with seven points, followed by the OECS, Cayman and the Bahamas.

Bajan girls out of squash final July 31, 2005 from the Daily Nation

DEFENDING GIRL'S CHAMPIONS, Barbados, failed to make it through to the team final when they lost in the semifinal to home team Trinidad and Tobago at the 23rd CLICO Caribbean Junior Squash Championships Friday night.

Following a power outage yesterday in the Cascadia Squash Club area of St Ann's, the venue of the girl's team semifinals had to be switched to the Queen's

Park Oval Squash Club and, after fighting hard, Barbados went down 3-2 to their hosts who extracted some revenge after losing in the finals last year to the same opponents.

After Barbados had slipped to a 0-2 deficit when Melanie Mark and Kennilee Ward both lost in straight games to Tessa Martin (Under-17) and Emily Bones (Under-13) respectively, Barbados pulled the tie back

to two matches all, with confident victories from the reigning Caribbean Under-15 champion Cheri-Ann Parris, and Nadia McCarthy.

Parris defeated Amy Gillezeau 9-2, 9-0, 9-4, and McCarthy defeated Nakita Poon Kong in the Under-19 No.1 position in four games 9-5, 2-9, 9-3, 9-1.
