Fun Day!!

The annual FOSA Family fun day was held at Bayshore complex on Bay street this year and what a time we had. There was nothing to compare it with past fun days.

Things were a bit slow in the early part of the morning, but once the water sports arrived, it was fun can't dun!! Visitors and old scholars alike enjoyed rides free of cost on the banana boat, glass bottom boat, donut and lots of games on the sand. The glass bottom boat offered views of sunken ships just below the surface of the water.

Images of the sunken Bajan Queen and another ship sunk by a German U boat.

The Bajan Queen, used by many to party and dance the night away, was sunk on May 19th 2002 to form part of the underwater park. The other boat, which some say is a Canadian freighter and others say is an oil tanker was sunk by a torpedo from a German U boat during World War II. There are other ships lying below the surface of the water in Carlisle bay, however, with the fading daylight the tour was cut short since we would not be able to see them clearly.

The donut ride and banana boat ride were the highlights of the water sports with some people who could not even swim getting very well acquainted with the water at a time they'd rather not. Thankfully they were equipped with life jackets which kept them afloat until they could be pulled from the deep waters.

Some of the children involved in the competitions

The children (above right) really got involved in the activities later that evening. There was a bread eating, sand filling, water balloon catching competition which was full of hilarious fun. Pictured above (left) is one contestant trying vigorously to eat a dry salt bread before his competitor. There were two teams.

First one team member would catch water balloons thrown to them by another team member. Then a third member would run a distance away to fill a bottle with sand. Then a fourth team member has to run from the start point, get the bottle full of sand and return it to the start point. When the bottle reaches the starting point the last person in the team gets the hardest part. Eat a dry salt bread, with just a couple ounces of water to spare.

At the end of the competition prizes were awarded to all competitors.

From all reports everyone had an exceedingly good time and several request were made to this writer to have it again real soon.
