Minister
of Commerce, Consumer Affairs and Business Development Senator Lynette Eastmond
wants the Barbadian public to embrace persons with fresh ideas and different
views as these would help develop and chart the country’s future.
“We still have a society that demonstrates an intolerance of individuals that express a view different by that expressed by the majority,” she said adding that this loss of ideas would cause more harm than good.
Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Award for Innovation Awards Ceremony held at the Frank Collymore Hall on Sunday night, she said that society had to become more “generous” with its acceptance of these persons.
Earlier in the evening school teacher Winston Cumberbatch was awarded the $75 000 Prime Minister’s Award for Innovation for his creation “Calculink”, while second and third place went to Handell Callender and John Phillips respectively.
The Bright Solutions Awards were presented to Sharica Harewood of the Foundation School, Leandra Harewood of the Alexandra School and Shari Best of Harrison College who were the first, second and third place winners respectively.
Big up!!
