Jamal Jordan hit a brilliant 111 to pilot Foundation to 325 for eight, an overall lead of 217. Here, he pulls a ball to the boundary

Day 2 of 3: The Lodge School 108 v Foundation 325-8

WITH A PERFECT SENSE of occasion, Jamal Jordan chose the final of the Cable & Wireless Under-15 Cricket Tournament to play his best innings so far.

The tall, well-built right-hander made a superb maiden century which put Foundation in a supremely dominant position. Today they will take the shiny cup with them back to Christ Church.

Jordan, a 13-year-old from Sargeant's Village, resumed from 13 overnight. He added another 98 yesterday as Foundation batted all day adding 286 runs in 72.3 overs.

"I felt very confident scoring my first century for my school and putting the team on top," said the No. 3 batsman, who was a member of the Barbados Under-13 team.

"The bowling was not that tough. It was easy, actually, and the pitch played well, so I just made the most of it."

Jordan dominated the day's play, with his ton coming at 2:26 p.m. when he gathered two runs to long-on. He followed up with a big six over mid-wicket.

The vigil lasted 210 minutes, came off 158 balls and included six fours and two sixes.

When he left the field Jordan got a huge kiss from his mother, Cyrilene Ince, while his father, Carl, smiled broadly as he watched from the boundary's edge.

Jordan and allrounder Michael Holder added 155 for the third wicket. Holder, a fine stroke-maker with a silky touch, looks to be a good allrounder in the making as he stroked 54 to follow up his three for 16 off nine overs on the first day.

If he can get among the Lodge batsmen as Foundation push for a win today, he will be a good bet for the Player-Of-The-Match award.

After the heroics of Jordan and Holder, and with the team sitting pretty at 252 for four at tea, Foundation had the option of declaring and launching an attack on Lodge's tired players.

However, the innings was stretched until the end of the day, giving most of the batsmen a chance to get a knock.

Chad Clarke-Reifer and Dario Bayne played steadily, while Mario Miller, a small, exciting allrounder with a flashing blade, thrilled the crowd with a run-a-ball unbeaten 15.

This forced Lodge to call out 'keeper Mario Rampersaud to trundle his off-spin and he was rewarded with two wickets, but the horse had already bolted.

Day 3 of 3: The Lodge School 108 and 113 lost to Foundation 340 by an innings and 113 runs

WITH CLENCHED FIST raised in the air and flags waving in the afternoon sunshine, Foundation signalled their dominance over The Lodge School and proclaimed themselves champions of the Cable & Wireless Under-15 Cricket Competition.

This merriment happened shortly before 4 p.m. after the Foundation lads had secured a mammoth win. Immediately, emergency fielder Hugh-Victor Browne ran onto the field with the school's flag and the other teammates joined in the party.

It was the second win – both by an innings – over The Lodge this season. It was the biggest margin of victory in the final of the 20-year tournament.

The champagne moment came when skipper Chad Clarke-Reifer accepted the trophy from Donald Austin, head of Cable & Wireless, and there were loud cheers from the Foundation possé.

It was Foundation's fourth final and first triumph. It was a great day for Bruce Cosens, the long-standing cricket master at the school.

He was also the man at the controls when the school won three titles in the then Ronald Tree Under-15 competition in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

After the match a tribute was paid to the Englishman, who has been at the Christ Church school since the mid-1970s. Also on hand to see the victory were head teacher Robert Cumberbatch and former principal Major Hugh Barker.

"This is a great win by the boys and we are delighted to take our first (C&W) title," said Seibert Straughn head of the school's Physical Education Department.

"We also have to pay tribute to Mr Cosens who has been at the heart and soul of the team. He has been great! Denis Osbourne has also marshalled the forces well and the boys played hard for these two great coaches."

On the field yesterday, the great guy was off-spinner Jamal Jordan who took four wickets with his off-spin from the southern end.

He was introduced after the seamers had hustled out The Lodge top order and Jordan's clever bowling was too much for the lesser players, most of whom hit across the line. There were also two run-outs, one at the top of the innings and one to finish the match.

Zikomo Sargeant made a polished 30 to topscore while Kemar Trotman was resilient, making just 14, but it spanned over two hours.

Jordan was an easy choice of Player-Of-The-Match following his brilliant 111 on the second day which pushed his team to the highest score of the tournament.

Twins on top

FILE PHOTO: Scholars – twin sisters, Charmaine and Christine Fleming, smiling with mother Juliette, after receiving several prizes for good academic performance at Foundation School, back in 2003.

Two sets of twins may have made history last night when they became the first sets in memory, to have won Barbados scholarships, all at the same time.

Eighteen-year-old twin sisters Christine and Charmaine Fleming, who both attended Christ Church Foundation School, before attending the Barbados Community College (BCC), are currently at the Florida Institute of Technology pursuing studies in chemical engineering.

Last night they said in a telephone interview that they were overjoyed with the results.

Both said they had worked extremely hard in order to win the scholarship.

They thanked their teachers and family whom they said played a major role in their development.

Welcome

A very warm welcome, hello, bonjoir and Salut! to all new Foundation Students. We are most pleased to have you join us this year. Regardless of what you may have been told by anyone else. This is the Best School in Barbados. Some of us refer to it as the University on the Hill. We rightly call it thus because deep within its hallowed corridors, where many outstanding bajans have tread you will find the knowledge you seek to make a man or woman out of you.

I want to wish you many great days filled with love, fun, laughs and hard work. Yes, hard work for without it you cannot reach to the top of the ladder you have chosen to climb and the top of the ladder is where the money is. So....

I know the staff at Foundation very well and I can tell you that you will not find another school with this selection of dedicated and loving teachers.

I want to take this time to shout out to Ashley Agard, Ashley Roberts, Calvin Griffith and Melanie Young. Some of my very special friends entering this noble institution this year.

So be good and do your work, and the school will be good to you.

God bless
